• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    great explanation. I have seen high end makers selling these types and always wondered what the use was in woodworking. I have a carbide scribe for metal and assumed it was for similar use

    Interesting, thank you. The UHMW is a great idea, i have a japanese wooden mallet but its large and clunky. I like the compactness of the metal with somethimg protective

    Those are all beautiful Derek, thank you for sharing. Is the darker wood Jarrah? How did you attach the UHMW and is that copper? I am on my phone and hard to tell exactly on the bottom one.

    Logo on pic 2 looks similar to old Disston logos, namely their Keystone saw logo which the produced for other manufacturers. Thats only based what I can see of the logo though

    they have those as well if you browse around and sort low-to-high price etc. I have bought several chisels for $30-50 each, and even some nice saws for $25 etc

    "DING-DONG!" Very cool tool and piece of history! Turned out a lovely patina on the metal. Interesting as I will need to be cutting some corrugated roof for an outdoor patio. Its funny, here in the states, a Ding-Dong is miniature cream filled chocolate "cake" dipped in chocolate.

    That is on my bucket list for sure. If we can ever get to Japan that will be one of the first places on my list, I'll have to explain to my wife of course why a tool store is on the top of my list instead of temples etc haha
