• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    WORKSHOP VACUUM

Hi I am in need of a new vacuum for extraction from small power tools, rail saw, biscuit jointer etc and wondered what everyone (particularly those in the fitted furniture trade) recommend. I already have the Titan vacuum from Screwfix and whilst it is very good extraction wise it is also...

Talk to me about electric paint sprayers

Recommendations please! I've got a few jobs coming up that need painting. A number of these are "well funded" so I'm thinking of using the proceeds from these to invest in an electric paint spraying system. I've been watching Peter Millards "playing at spraying" series and the issues he's had...

New Joinery Business - Advice Needed

Hi, I know we have a number of Professionals on here so I hope someone will be able/willing to give me a steer on my new career. After over 15 years working as a professional Civil Engineer I have decided I am ready for a change and to do something for a living that I really enjoy. I want to...

Bailey No6 Quandary - Plane Experts Knowledge Required!

I bought a baily no6 off eBay ages ago and decided to give it a bit of a clean up at the weekend. However it appears that the holes in the frog don't line up with the threaded holes in the bed of the plane. The holes are the same distance apart but appear to be to far back in the bed by about...

The Orangerie - duff glass-fibre-coating REPAIRED

Shamelessly pinched someone else's photo and done a quick paint alteration to demonstrate what I mean about the additional fibreglass reinforcement. Blue shows the likely path of possible cracking and the red the orientation of the additional reinforcement to mitigate the cracking risk.

    Hitachi 16ga Cordless Finish Nailer

Hi, Has anyone else got one of these? I just pushed the "BUY" button on one today so I was wondering, do I have to buy the Hitachi branded nails or will any straight 16ga nails work? Thanks Will

    Finish for Sycamore

Funnily enough I applied Tung oil to the floating shelves I have been building this weekend. From this.... (Please ignore the router burns, I sanded them off before finishing) To this.... Obviously the oil is still fresh and the excess not wiped off in these. I applied two coats in...

Mobile Mitre Saw Station with Dust Extraction

I finished a project last night that I've been working on for a few weeks now. I bought a Bosch GSM10s mitre saw from axminster but was not impressed with the built in dust collection so designed a dust collecting hood to fit behind the existing fence to capture as much saw dust as possible yet...

What do you think of this workshop layout?

I posted the following on UKW earlier but as there are so many good workshops being built on here I would like to hear your thoughts too. This is a plan of my garage, 6.650m x 4.250m, which is a good size. however the presence of my long running classic car restoration takes up a portion of it...

    Dust extraction

I have recently completed building a thein separator as I also hate the loud screeching noise my old brushed 50l extractor made. I found a 1hp blower with an induction motor on eBay and modified it to fit a thein chamber I made. It is designed to be used with a 110mm soil pipe system and the...

Dust Extraction - Fan & Induction Motor Unit

Hi, After recently upgrading the local extraction on my Table saw the dust extraction bug has bitten. I've been giving some serious thought into how I can build an effective yet quiet system to service the rest of my tools (P/T, Drill Press, Mitre Saw etc.). Unfortunately, the result is I am...
