• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Maybe one for the cruciverbalists

No rhyme or reason to this damn thing, is there? Hadn't had my coffee because it's a tea day - but I hadn't had that either! My previously mentioned rule of thumb was possibly the key.

    Show us yer bench!

Jealous as all heck, I am. All those drawers, all that storage. Ahhh. I think we need to lower the tone a bit. Craig expected four figure Swedish benches, and while I can't do that, here's a eleven year old pic of my E C Emmerich with customisation instead. It'd just been...

    An Auger Stock

Ooo, that's smart, is that. Proper job. :eusa-clap: Must admit for a wee bit like that I'd just get out the 16" sweep brace, but not everyone may have one of those. But this reminded me that I do have an adjustable auger bit handle: Sorry, that's literally the closest I can get to it...

Probably a query for any model engineers in da house

Actually, despite the subject line, this is probably for anyone who knows more about metal than I do - which is likely everyone. So, I have this Pelikan mechanical pencil which is not working. The pen repair people are no use because they say "Buy a cheap one in bad condition for spare parts"...

    Cricket bats

Which immediately put me in mind of a Matt cartoon from last summer when club cricket was still verboten:

    Secondary Bevel on Paring Chisels

Grit on the lathe bed/ways/wotchamacallits is the usual argument against iirc. Just out of interest, what type of wheel were you using when you last used a grinder? There were some pretty fancy new grades and bonds even 15 years ago, so goodness knows what marvels of cool grinding are available...

    The Ghost of Workshops Past

Hello Havenites one and all, Once upon a time, many moons ago, I used to torture trees and spend inordinate amounts of time removing rust from old hand tools and convincing other people on the interweb that it was a Jolly Good Idea to do the same thing. For which I hope to be forgiven. Real...
