• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Hot Heat 2026

Why does humidity affect how bad it feels. I've heard of foreigners from much hotter climates struggle in blighty. It was 31 here oop north, The house was 22 which felt lovely and chilly when coming inside.

    shed heater

Extra socks and a coat, or get better electrics. Not sure how long one of those propane heaters would work in a confined space, plus fine dust and burny things dont really mix. Then theres the issue that water is a bi product so will make your shed damp. Ideally an oil filled radiator is good...

Potential Stars Waiting To be Born.

It was just one of those things, not much time, two year old kiddy, working 12hr shifts. Next thing you know its been in drawer for a few years. She has been asking if I want anything, maybe this is the year I definitely get it fixed,

Potential Stars Waiting To be Born.

My wife bought me a nice seiko for our first wedding anniversary, I dropped it and a hand fell off. You know how one thing pushes another thing out of priority. I should get it fixed, its our 25th anniversary this year

    Pond revamp

I did consider getting a nexus and then having the block filter full of water plants to extract any nasties. I understand alot are ditching the nexus and going to drum filters and a new one on me is anoxic filtration which is the opposite of everything I've learned. It relies on oxygen depleted...

    Pond revamp

I've got a few trees so probably remove leaves with a net daily, check how much muck is in the vortex and give it quick purge. Thats about it. Check water quality weekly for ammonia, nitrite. I put a new pump on thinking 6k lt/hr would be enough but I've ordered something bigger that will turn...

    Pond revamp

Finally got some water in, I still need to render the sides but that bit of the garden no longer has the bog of stench and loads of rusty machines anymore so I have garnered some browny points. Time to disinfect things. Patassium permanganate oxidises anything organic. It is also used for...

We had 6 banks but the last closed recently, guess what they used the building for. A banking hub:rolleyes:

This little guy used to follow me around, he even started looking through the house windows when he wanted food.

    Reclaimed sapele

I was nurturing a deal to buy it and lots of other stuff. I kept in touch with the guy for a year, every so often asking if they were selling stuff yet. Not pushy just every couple of month. Then out of the blue his supervisor sent the whole contents to scrap. I even phoned around scrap...

This was a gift to a local uni but they had it in a rented storage container with some lathes. They scrapped it

    Pond revamp

I suppose its good that my pond is just a dinky one, the windows are small but look ok. Once you get not much bigger there is a huge step in price. These were £200 each and if you increase the size by just 50cm the price becomes £1000 each.

    Pond revamp

This method of filtering is an old school one, most modern koi keepers will use K1 as Adrian mentions usually in modern filters called nexus. I did think about changing but the breeders in japan still use this stuff so it cant be that bad. The big vortex thing behind removes any solids from the...

    Pond revamp

I started the first fill, its always good to know how much water it holds just incase you need to medicate. I rescued all the jap matting, lots of pressure washing, theres probably £200 so worth the effort. It will be getting disinfected later. The uv lamp was toast, being sat in the...

    Pond revamp

I only prepped half the wall for some reason before putting flow coat on, so when that cured I sanded the whole wall. And then mixed enough to do it I got the glass installed and went through 7 tubes of fancy stuff. This is my good run of silcone the rest are like dogs hind legs. It is...
