• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

    Click-to-fit floor tiles

I used something similar about 6years ago in our kitchen over the top of 1950's council dark brown tiles. (probably asbestos based). The floor seemed very flat and I cleaned it thoroughly before laying the new stuff. A couple areas needed some filling to repair damaged tiles. After 6years quite...

    Ornamental lathe restoration

I thought the air fryer might also work for powder coating, I've always wanted to try it. But the fan might affect the finish, or a bearing heater. Did you add a bit detergent to your mix? On the welding forum someone said fairy liquid is ok, I put a splash of concentrated engine degreasant...

The overhead was easy to take to bits only one casualty Next I made up 20ltrs of rust remover, this stuff costs peanuts and works just as well as evaporust which would of cost well over £100. Very happy with the results, Lots of gears to do To dry them off I used the old air...

Sam I love that scalloped affect also, might be fun putting a tall champaigne flute down. One of those stools look about my level, I might try and reproduce one. My wife offered me a piece for our fist wedding anniversary but got a watch instead. I dropped the watch and a hand fell off, I must...

    Ornamental lathe restoration

Andy I'm not even sure if all the bits are here, the original seller said it had a leadscrew missing. Pete I think there is always the risk of going too far with a rebuild. The reason I painted this was because it had already been repainted and the previous owner had stripped a load of bits...

    Ornamental lathe restoration

Thanks Adrian, most of it is just tedious cleaning which I quite like. I am disapointed by the nickel plating, I've spent about £150 on various solutions/annodes, power supplies to get better results. They are still nothing flash. I spent about an hour putting the headstock together and then...

    Ornamental lathe restoration

Due to the Andy's pointing out a lovely little grinding lathe I felt obliged to buy said lathe. I also felt the need to buy some london plane timber and big wooden clamps. I bought a couple of laquers a while back to refinish the brass. The spray one is just a basic laquer with a...

Tooth Fairy Boxes - The finished article.

I think we have a collection of curly hair and tooty pegs from our daughter, knowing my wife we probably have finger nails and unbilical. I'm sure we have puppy teeth also

Andy was almost right, its a oval chuck by all accounts. there is another bit that attaches to the headstock which secures that free moving section. I have that also, just didnt know it was part of this bit. Andy the maker of this lathe is unknown as yet, it was listed as possible Goyen...

This is a crusty goneostat it is used to hold a cutter at the desired angle for sharpening I did think I was getting near the end of this project then found these Not sure what this is supposed to do, it has a smaller eccentric chuck but I'm lost with the other bit. That center...

Yes that is correct, theres a spring behind the worm to help disengage the drive. Materials like ivory and tropical timbers would of been the choice for the discerning gentleman who could afford this type of lathe back in the day

    Ornamental lathe restoration

I dont have the knowhow to create a gear but I can bodge most things. A box of bare gear castings came with the lathe. Lots of pictures. I've never seen this lathe assembled so should be fun trying to work it out. I used to like everything looking brand new but like you say some things look...

    Frozen shoulder.

For me it was just lifting heavy things for years in the same repetitive manner, 1400 per shift, at 4 stone a time. For my wife I said it was no particular reason but I was wrong, we put it down to when she fell down a step coming out of a shop. It started a while after that. I never recovered...

    Frozen shoulder.

I've had a couple, left side about 10years ago. Did all of the physio to no avail, had a couple cortisone injections which only last a short while. After 18months my GP finally referred to surgeon and after another 6months had surgery. The physio was brutal. Fast forward 8years things have moved...
