• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I have built a ukulele before, but it was from a kit, and the side pieces came pre-bent. I’d like to build an acoustic guitar but not sure where to start, books or videos? The part that has me concerned the most is bending the sides.

Thread 'Dreadnought SS Guitar (Demo Time)'

So while Instrument Nos 6 and 7 are cosy in the house, I can now get stuff prepared in the workshop for the next project, Nos 8 and 9.

This is plan 1 of 7 :) for two guitars, one symmetrical and one cutaway, Venetian, this time. The previous cutaway on the ukulele was a Florentine. If you look at the position of the cutaway on this plan, you will see that it comprises two opposing arcs, as opposed the the sharp horn of the Florentine. This will stretch my skills further because those arcs are bent from the same pice of wood.

The first thing I have been doing is...

I recently bought making master guitars, if you want to build a classical guitar it's the best one you can buy, I also have hiscock's book make your own acoustic guitar, and still haven't made a guitar yet, I need to buy a few tools before it is possible, a bending iron is the main thing I need, and a few other specialist tools.
 
When I was 14 (58 years ago) my father made me an acoustic guitar from plans in a Popular Mechanics Magazine. He used scrap wood from his repair and refinishing business, only buying the fret board and keys. Played reasonably well for a $10 guitar. He also made a couple Appalachian Dulcimers from a book after he retired. I might still have the guitar article stashed away in the book room if you really want me to dig it out. Not up to library standards.

Appreciate the offer, sounds like a great memory you have there.

The dulcimer sounds interesting as well. I’ve always wanted a banjo and almost bought an appalachian banjo kit once from a guy who makes them and lives in the Appalachian mountains.
