• Hi all and welcome to TheWoodHaven2 brought into the 21st Century, kicking and screaming! We all have Alasdair to thank for the vast bulk of the heavy lifting to get us here, no more so than me because he's taken away a huge burden of responsibility from my shoulders and brought us to this new shiny home, with all your previous content (hopefully) still intact! Please peruse and feed back. There is still plenty to do, like changing the colour scheme, adding the banner graphic, tweaking the odd setting here and there so I have added a new thread in the 'Technical Issues, Bugs and Feature Requests' forum for you to add any issues you find, any missing settings or just anything you'd like to see added/removed from the feature set that Xenforo offers. We will get to everything over the coming weeks so please be patient, but add anything at all to the thread I mention above and we promise to get to them over the next few days/weeks/months. In the meantime, please enjoy!

I made a start on my next job yesterday, some under stairs cupboards. These will have push to open doors in a shaker style and a book case with a set of drawers below. these are all in painted MDF again. I got as far as building the drawer unit carcass and the drawer fronts.

I then got all the rails and stiles cut for the doors and also for the book case sides. This included cutting the rebates for the Tonk strips.

Then on to the plinth for the book case.

Not bad for a day and a half's work. :D
 
I got the carcass of the shelving unit assembled today.
 
Couldn't work out what I was looking at with the drawer unit. maybe the shut lines between drawers are so good in some places I can't see them :)

I'm sure it will all become clear as it progresses.
 
Ah, I see what you mean Robert. The pic of the drawer unit just has the drawer fronts laid on top as the drawers haven't been made yet. In the latest pic That is the drawer unit carcass at the bottom. There will then be three shelves above this held on Tonk strips. I hope this clarifies it a bit? ;)
 
After being out of the shop yesterday I got back to this job today. I got the book case ready for primer.

Then I got cracking on the doors. Gave me a bit of a head scratching with the angles but got there in the end and had all four of them assembled.

Should get more done tomorrow and make a start on the framework. :D

I have started on the framework today and have the doors in paint. Should get those done tomorrow.
 
Have you shaved relief angles on the top edges of those under stair doors? I made a door for a section under our stairs and had to have to highest point as a spike just so it would open.

There is no obvious frame to hinge the doors from. I'm guessing there will be something inside to take kitchen cupboard type hinges?

This unit will be fixed in place Mark as one of the doors will be hinged from it. Yes Robert it will be hung on concealed hinges fitted to the dividers on the inside. All of the doors and drawers are push to open so the frame will be assembled and trimmed on site.
P.S. sorry Robert I forgot about your first question. Yes I have shaved a relief on the top of the doors as I have come across this with angled doors before. ;)
 
I had yesterday afternoon off due to the nice weather and went in today to get all the pieces painted. I had a good day and got everything in paint and almost ready to go. I shall be fitting these next Wednesday so will be ready to go with it all. All of the insides won't be painted so I can build these on site which will be easier for me. :D Once everything was dry I got the tonk strips installed and tried the shelves. I also fitted the drawer unit to make sure nothing had moved. (Better safe than sorry)


Will pick up some 2" sq framing up on Monday and then it's ready to go. ;)
